Welcome to the Mara Wakulda Project, a collaboration between The Stable Group and The Gloucester Worimi First Peoples Aboriginal Corporation (GWFPAC).
The Gloucester Worimi First Peoples Aboriginal Corporation (GWFPAC) approached The Stable Group for assistance in a grant application to the Aboriginal Prosperity Stream Two of the Regional NSW - Business Case and Strategy Development Fund. The project aimed to construct a cultural centre, native nursery, and bush tucker garden in Gloucester to support indigenous tourism, provide cultural education resources, and offer various events and programs, including garden tours, bush tucker tastings, weaving and language classes, and the establishment of an Indigenous ranger program.
The Stable Group played a pivotal role in supporting GWFPAC's successful grant application to the Aboriginal Prosperity Stream Two of the Regional NSW – Business Case and Strategy Development Fund.
After securing the funding, The Stable Group continued its involvement, leading the pre-construction studies and preparing the business case. The group worked closely with Indigenous employer sub-consultants, ensuring meaningful participation and consultation under GWFPAC’s guidance. The pre-construction studies included a tourism feasibility study, facility needs analysis, training program scoping study, native nursery business plan, site acquisition strategy, cultural centre and nursery concept design, preliminary cost estimates, and obtaining planning, environmental, and regulatory approvals. A revised pre-tender cost estimate was also prepared, alongside a benefit-cost ratio assessment in line with NSW Treasury Guidelines.
To support GWFPAC in the steps beyond the business case, The Stable Group, engaged with Yancoal to secure a lease agreement for a retired mine site in Gloucester. This agreement has now allowed GWFPAC to apply for additional grant funding, through the Growing Regions Fund, seeking support for the construction phase of the project.
Throughout the project, The Stable Group utilised a wide range of skills, including site acquisition expertise, business case writing, grant application support, and stakeholder consultation and engagement, all conducted with a strong focus on cultural safety and awareness.
