Murry Darling Basin Infrastructure Projects

Description

The Murray Darling Basin Infrastructure Projects for the Regional Investment Centre aimed to identify recommendations and opportunities in Agribusiness, Tourism, Water, Energy, and Infrastructure within the Murray Darling Basin region for private investment and government funding.

Our Role

The Stable Group played a central role in the project, which involved conducting a comprehensive desktop audit, stakeholder engagement, and an environmental scan of the NSW Murray-Darling Basin. This extensive assessment included examining existing projects, resulting in the collation of over 250 infrastructure opportunities. The audit provided valuable insights into crucial factors such as drought conditions, water management, and security, considering the quadruple bottom-line benefits encompassing economic, environmental, cultural, and social aspects.

The Stable Group's assessment encompassed evaluating existing strategies, visions, plans, and policies, and generating recommendations for both short and long-term investment opportunities.

With a focus on delivering quadruple bottom-line benefits, The Stable Group produced an investment strategy. The final deliverable included a register of all opportunities and the down-selected projects that aligned with existing regional strategies, such as the REDs (Regional Economic Development) initiatives. The strategy outlined ten priority projects and provided a clear pathway forward for implementation.

The Stable Group utilised a rapid evaluation framework to down-select projects that aligned with an investment rationale and budget envelope. Additionally, on-ground proofing was conducted, involving engagement, consultation, and affirmation of the findings from the desktop audit. The work carried out by The Stable Group was aligned with the 20-Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW and other key strategies to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to regional development.
