Port of Newcastle Stage 1 and 2

Welcome to the Port of Newcastle Project - a project dedicated to implementing profitable and sustainable infrastructure expansions at The Port of Newcastle and assessing the imposed 'container cap'.

Description

The Stable Group's engagement with the Port of Newcastle (PON) in 2021 involved constructing a Stakeholder Engagement Plan to define import and export markets, organisations, and industries in specific regions of New South Wales (North, North Western, Central, and Central Western). TSG created a stakeholder database of key influencers in the region, assessing their level of influence and role within the Port's expansion and diversification business model. Additionally, TSG determined the resulting savings to different markets from transitioning from Brisbane and Melbourne ports to Newcastle, as well as the key commercial supply chain participants to engage with.

This project followed PON's investment in two Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes and associated infrastructure at the Port's Mayfield 4 berth, aimed at increasing efficiency and providing an alternative for customers currently using other ports for oversized equipment and containerised cargo.

The collaboration between The Stable Group and the Port of Newcastle yielded significant results. As a direct outcome of their work, a bill was successfully passed through the Government, removing the 50,000-container cap imposed on the Port. This legislative success enabled the Port of Newcastle to proceed with the development of a large-scale container terminal, facilitating growth and expansion in the region.
