Regional Drought Resilience Plan for Hilltops and Upper Lachlan

Description

As part of the Canberra Regional Joint Organisation (CRJO) Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program, which was designed to enable local governments and their communities to better prepare, respond, endure and recover from droughts; the Hilltops and Upper Lachlan Local Government Areas were approached to engage in a pilot program for the development of regional drought resilience plans.

Our Role

The Stable Group were engaged by CRJO to contribute to the development of a comprehensive Regional Drought Resilience Plan for the Hilltops and Upper Lachlan LGAs that had generic actions across five system areas, including Governance and leadership, Community, Economy, Natural environment, and Built environment and infrastructure.

The Stable Group completed a cost-benefit analysis technical report, detailed cost estimates, community consultation, and garnered letters of support from various stakeholders for the Regional Drought Resilience Plan for the Lachlan Shire and Hilltops Councils. The aim of this plan was to identify and detail the 'Built environment & Infrastructure' priority projects, as part of the Regional Drought Resilience Plan for the Lachlan Shire and Hilltops Councils, and contribute to the NSW Government's Future Ready Regions Strategy.

During this project, consultants within The Stable Group reviewed Federal and NSW Government policies and assessment criteria relating to potential projects under the program, Council Community Strategic Plans, Regional Economic Development Strategies for each of the Functional Economic Regions associated with the CRJO, and the Draft Lachlan Regional Water Strategy to identify existing commitments. Consultation was undertaken with both the Upper Lachlan Shire and Hilltops Councils, to develop a pathway for each of the priority projects to be taken forward.
